Based in the input of several people (mostly on the TFF). we have an answer to the question "what is a clouser".
I still have a problem, I don't like definitions too much, so I'm changing the question to the following:
"What is a clouser during the month of September, 2010""?
Our guidelines are as follows:
Any single hook
Must have some sort of dumbell eyed (bead chain, lead eyes, etc)
Must incorporate hair (synthetic, bucktail, etc)
Must be tied to ride hook up (you know, like a clouser)
Cannot use feathers, or multiple hooks.
We're keeping this as open as possible, but keeping the spirit of a clouser should be simple enough.
One more rule:
Have fun.

I like it!!!
Due to the excessive heat I've been spending a lot of time at the vise tying clousers. I have everything from a 4/0 to a #12 so far. I think this is going to be a fun contest.

I found some super small bead chain and have been tying clousers down to sz 14. I might try an 18 today just for The hell of it

So, using synthetic fiber is OK? Puglisi fiber? What about marribou? I saw you said no feathers. But, just want to be sure. Can I tie a clouser out of nothing but flashabou or krytsal flash? And what about using zonkered rabit or pine squirrel? I don't mean to complicate things. Just want to know the limits.

Also, are rubber legs kosher?
I'm thinking a small (actual) clouser with a set of rubber legs tied in behind the eyes.

I'd say any type of "hair" is fine as long as it is tied in a streamer. I'd say you're good with all flashabou or other flash.
I'd say no on the zonker strip and the pine squirrel strips (but using the hair would be good).
It is a group call, but while we're all open on the definite closer, it still needs say 'clouser' when you see it.

Not sure why this is so complicated. I don't think the contest was ever about 'any fly that Bob Clouser ties'; it is about catching fish using the Clouser Deep Minnow. Is this so hard???

Dang, working sure puts a crimp on my fishing!
I'll be able to wet a line this weekend, perhaps even as early as tonight. I've tied up several different sizes and patterns of Deep Minnows; its been fun so far!
Good luck all; hope you all catch! (just not as many as me!!!!)
