snuck out on monday
(Wednesday, 17 March 2010) Written by
I snuck out Monday after work to a neighborhood bayou; spent about an hour and a half and caught a small bluegill and a 1lb channel cat. There were some carp or buffs swimming and gar surfacing.  I hooked what I think was a small carp but it got off before I had a look at it. Fun time over all.
Big Carp Big Buff Contest

I'm trying to add my catch to my fishing log, but I think I may have put it in the wrong log.  Does it have to be in 'contest log' or just my fishing log? Do all three pictures need to be in the log (it would take three log entries) or can you see the others from my gallery?

I finally put one on the board; I doubt it will win anything but perhaps it will shame someone else to enter?
Another blanking - Feb 14, 2010

After a nice Val's Day celebration on Saturday and Sunday morning, I spent about 3 1/2 hours at the local pond, near where I _thought_ I hear a large fish crash last time out.  I threw out about a gallon of maize in two areas, and also used about two tbsps of calf manna in PVA for each hookbait.  Baited with chili garbonzos, TF 12mm boilies, and Opal flavored maize. No runs.  I know I should be prebaiting or going earlier to allow the maize time to pull them in, but I and fishing when I can.

Saturday blanking

Fished for about 5 hours this morning at the Bear Creek pond, catching one rather large soft-shell turtle and nothing else. I chumed about a gallon each of soured maize and birdseed; there was quite a bit of turle action and I'm sure there were fish as well, but I didn't get any hits on butterscotch maize, creamy butter rum maize, flavored chickpeas, bread, or puffs (except on turtle on a cinnamon puff). Filled a 30 gallon trash bag with assorted trash around the fishing spot.

Cedar Creek Multispecies Fly Fishing
(Thursday, 02 July 2009) Written by bret
July 1, I went and fly fished the docks at Cedar Creek Lake.       I landed 5 different species over the night.      Spotted gar, Largemouth bass, Yellow bass, White bass, and Hybrid Striped bass.   I lost a channel catfish at the boat, but it was a great night.   We launched from Big Chief in Gun Barrel City.  We got there in time for the schooling white bass, and  took a quick sandwich break between the schoolies and the docks.

I have reinstated the original contest code. You will recognize the angler log and fishing locations code in your user menu. I'm still working onthe  private fishing location code as well. There are a lot of new things in the mix, so stay tuned. Feel free to drop me a line with any site issues or suggestions.   Jeff@txfishes.com

Printed my image yesterday night, and hit a small creek during my lunch break.  Caught my first 2 species,  a longear sunfish, and a bluegill.   Both on dry fly.
Cedar Creek
(Monday, 22 June 2009) Written by bret
Took the TXFishes pontoon boat to Cedar Creek June 16.   Wind was howling, but we caught several white bass and undersized hybred striped bass schooling before dark.  Then the fun began.   We landed close to 100 white bass, a couple undersizes hybreds, and Donny finally landed a legal hybred on the fly.   That baby hybred owned him.   Complete pandamonium  for 10 + minutes. 4 spotted gar were landed, a couple channel catfish, and a lost largemouth. Countless Yellow bass, even using big flies to avoid them. Brilliant trip, need to go back soon.
Day 1 - hotter than hell
(Sunday, 21 June 2009) Written by ScottEvil
After a great lunch and pale ale @ BJ's for lunch followed by the movie "The Hangover" I decided to hit the creek up down the street for some carp but the sun was already too low and I couldn't get a good visual on anything so I ended up just casting to bubbles and fishing fishy looking spots. I caught more sunfish than I wanted to but also got a decent channel kitty to start the contest off with 2 different species. I know of a bunch of Tilapia I plan on targeting tomorrow. This contest should be fun. BTW the Hangover movies is fucking funny and I about pissed myself at the pictures at the end of the movie. Good shit man
